Sainsbury delivery charges

• There is no minimum order value on any grocery order and Sainsbury’s delivery charges vary depending on the slot that you book. These are subject to availability.
• All orders below £40 are subject to a standard £6 ‘delivery charge’, which includes selecting, packing and delivery of the goods.
• Grocery orders of £40 and above will qualify for the variable pricing of delivery slots (from £3.50 to a maximum of £5.50).
• You can get free delivery when you spend over £100 for deliveries on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Sainsburys delivery times

• Sainsburys can deliver your grocery order to you in 1 hour timeslots seven days a week.
• Delivery times vary according to where you live. Once on the website enter your postcode and you can view the delivery slot options available in your area.

Receiving a Sainsburys delivery

• You or someone aged 18 or over on your behalf must be available to receive, inspect and sign for your grocery order.  Sainsburys will not be able to leave goods unattended under any circumstances.
• To take the best care of your shopping, Sainsburys pack your frozen and chilled goods in separate bags and keep them at the right temperature. Your shopping is then delivered in special vans with temperature-controlled compartments.
• Sainsbury’s will always deliver your order to the front door of your house or to the communal entrance to your block of flats. Their drivers may also deliver beyond this into your home. Their ‘providing a safe delivery’ section below sets out more.
• Siansburysdelivery service does not include a detailed check of your shopping. However, if you have any queries, you are welcome to call their customer helpline on 0800 328 1700.
• It’s advisable to let them know as soon as possible if you are not able to be in to receive your delivery.
• If you are out for the time of your scheduled delivery, or are unable to meet their driver in your workplace within a reasonable time, they reserve the right to charge our standard delivery charge for re-delivery. Their ‘providing a safe delivery’ section below sets out more information.
• If you have not contacted the Sainsburys Customer Care Team on 0800 328 1700 within 24 hours to rearrange a failed delivery, the order will be cancelled and refunded and they may retain the delivery fee.
• Please do not offer the delivery drivers tips as they are not able to accept them.

Providing a safe grocery delivery.  The following information sets out Sainsburys current delivery guidelines.

• Sainsburys will always deliver your order to the front door of your house or to the communal entrance to your block of flats.
• The drivers may not be able to deliver to you if he or she has to transport your shopping an unreasonable distance because of parking or access restrictions.
• Drivers will not always be able to deliver beyond the communal entrance if there isn’t a lift, which transports the shopping beyond the first floor of the building (where the ground level is 0). If this is the case, the driver or a store colleague will discuss delivery options with you for subsequent deliveries.
• Sainsbury’s always aim to help our customers who need further assistance, where our drivers believe it is safe or practical to do so.
• Please note that our service does not extend to unpacking your shopping from its bags.
• For deliveries to customers at a business address, sainsburys are only able to deliver to the ground floor communal entrance of your business, but are unfortunately not able to come up to your desk or place of work. If your business has a shared ground floor reception, this is the point to which they will deliver.
• Please ensure you are available to receive and sign for the order within your timeslot. Their drivers will wait a reasonable amount of time for you to arrive at the ground floor reception to collect your order but if you do not arrive, they may need to leave without delivering your order. While Sainsburys may be able to organise a redelivery for a subsequent time, they may need to charge for this redelivery.

IGD Retail Analysis reports:

Market share data for the UK Grocery market from TNS has shown a slight slow-down over the past month, with the market growing by 5.2% in the 12 weeks to 6 September 2009.  According to the market research agency, “recession panic” is beginning to leave the mindset of both consumer and retailer alike, with Waitrose proving to be the key beneficiary – growing by 11.2% compared with the previous year, aided by the performance of its ‘essentials’ range, and the acquisition of a number of Co-operative/Somerfield sites.

Ed Garner, Director at TNS Worlpanel, signalled a cautionary note – despite the solid performance from the grocery industry: “This is not to imply that all sectors of the High Street will instantly return to pre-recession growth. Rather that food remains a manageable proportion of most household budgets bys historical standards.

“It is worth noting that there is challenge to the sector coming from the falling grocery inflation rate – this will restrict value growth for the industry going forward.”

Founded in 1869 Sainsbury’s is now the 3rd largest supermarket in the UK (according to the Taylor Nelson Sofres rankings published in January 2008),  with a market share of 16.4% compared to Tesco’s 31.5%, ASDA’s 16.7% and Morrison’s 11.4%.

With an emphasis on a higher quality grocery offering compared to its other large rivals, Sainsbury’s currently operates 785 hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenience stores. It also operates Sainsbury’s Bank, which sells financial services, and is a joint venture with HBOS; Sainsbury’s Online internet shopping services; and has a property portfolio worth £8.6 billion (as of March 2007).

According to CACI, as of 2006, Sainsbury’s has market dominance in 8 postcode areas; TQ (Torquay), SN (Swindon), GU (Guildford), RH (Redhill), DA (Dartford), SE (South East London), EN (Enfield) and WV (Wolverhampton).
It is particularly strong in London and the South-East, where it is based, and although it has a national store portfolio, it is biased towards the South-East.

Sainsbury’s operates an internet shopping service branded as “Sainsbury’s Online”. To use this service customers choose their grocery items online. Pickers then collect the required items which are delivered to customers from a local store by van. This is available to about 75% of the UK population. The service is run from larger stores which carry the full product range – over 100 stores operate an Online service.

It was previously called ‘Sainsbury’s to You’ and ‘Sainsbury’s entertain You’, and prior to that it was called ‘Sainsbury’s Orderline’.

Sainsbury’s staff will now deliver your groceries to your door, however prior to September 2007, and as was common with other UK supermarkets with an online shopping and delivery service such as Tesco or Ocado, Sainsbury’s Online delivery staff would carry items direct to customers’ kitchens.

Ocado supply Waitrose products online and their website is www.ocado.com Although the assortments differ, both of the services offer the same quality produce you would expect from a Waitrose branch and the same quality of customer care.

• Ocado items are picked and packed for you by an Ocado team member in a warehouse and then delivered to your door.  Customers recieve the benefit of Ocado promotions and pricing.   Many people think Waitrose fully owns Ocado, however it only has a minority stake and a distant one at that. Steps to grocery shopping with ASDA on line:

To select products directly from the store, click on ‘The Store’ button and decide where you want to go to on the panel on the left of the screen by:

• First, choosing an aisle (e.g. ‘Fruit and Vegetables’)
• Second, choosing a section (e.g. ‘Apples and Pears’)
• Third, choosing a shelf (e.g. ‘Apples’)

You will be shown all the products currently available on the shelf.

To add an item to your trolley from a shelf, click the ‘add’ button. The product will automatically appear in your shopping trolley on the right of the screen.

Search
If you know exactly what you’re looking for and can’t find an item, go to the search box and just type in the name of the product or the type of food, eg. tomato soup, apples etc.

My Favourites
ASDA have several ways to help make your online shopping experience even quicker, after you’ve completed your first order. These can be found by clicking the ‘My Favourites’ tab.

Previous orders
This lists all the items you’ve bought on your last three visits to our online store. Simply add items to your basket one-at-a-time by clicking the ‘add’ button next to each item.

Shopping Lists
To help make your online shopping for asdagroceries even easier in the future, you can create personal shopping lists that contain the items you buy on a regular basis. For example, you could create a shopping list for a weekly/monthly shop, or a list for the kids’ birthday parties, cleaning essentials and so on. It’s like creating a personal shelf just for you, containing your favourite items. It means you’ll be able to find these items and add them to your trolley very quickly, every time you shop!

You can either create a new shopping list by selecting products from the aisles and shelves, or from the shopping trolley.

While browsing the shelves, simply select the items you want to add to your list by ticking the box next to the item, then click the ‘Add to list’ button. You can then choose to create a new list, or add the item to an existing list that you have already created. If you decide to create a new list, you’ll need to enter a name and a description for the list e.g. Kids’ party … All the things I need to throw a great birthday party.

You can also add the entire contents of your trolley to a new or existing shopping list by clicking the ‘Add to list’ button at the bottom of your trolley.

Each shopping list can contain a maximum of 100 products, and you can create up to 10 shopping lists.

Quick Start Shopping
After you’ve registered, you can enter a few details from an ASDA till receipt. The day after, the products from your receipt will be stored in your Favourites list. Not all the products from our stores are available from this site, but ASDA are adding to our online range all the time.

Changing quantities
To change the quantity of a product, click the ‘+’ or ‘-’ symbols next to the quantity box, or just type the new quantity straight into the quantity box.

If you want to delete an item in your Shopping Trolley, click the ‘x’ button next to the item or use the ‘-’ symbol to reduce the quantity to zero.
